Each year on March 22, the world recognizes World Water Day, a United Nations observance dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of freshwater resources and advocating for their sustainable management.

This year, EarthEcho International joined forces with our Youth Water Challenge Ambassadors, Youth Leadership Council members, and partners across the globe to celebrate with action. From water quality testing to environmental cleanups and coral restoration, over 400 individuals participated in events that turned awareness into real-world impact.

Event Highlights from the EarthEcho Community:

🌊 Glendale, WI — EarthEcho x Xylem Watermark

In collaboration with Xylem Watermark, Glen Hills Middle School, and local organizations, EarthEcho hosted a vibrant World Water Day festival for 200 4th and 5th grade students. The event featured hands-on activities including water testing, conservation games, and opportunities for students to connect with local water leaders. We want to extend a huge thank you to our Wisconsin Partners: Milwaukee Rivekeeper, Sweet Water, Riveredge Nature Center, Milwaukee Waters Investigation, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, and Wastecap Resource Solutions.

🌊 Kingston, NY — Hudson's Tomorrow

Water Challenge Ambassador Benny Jiang and his organization Hudson’s Tomorrow celebrated World Water Day at their school’s winter festival. They engaged their community through interactive displays that raised awareness—and funds—to protect the Hudson River ecosystem, emphasizing the vital link between local rivers and our global ocean.

🌊 Raleigh, NC — Trailside Science

Youth Leadership Council members Pia Visaria and Kai Tran represented EarthEcho at Lake Johnson Park’s Trailside Science: Celebrating World Water Day alongside the City of Raleigh, Friends of Lake Johnson Association, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and NCSU Climate Leaders Program. During the event, Pia and Kai led community water testing demonstrations, which engaged participants in how simple tools can assess water health. Attendees also learned how everyday community members can contribute to water stewardship efforts.

🌊 Warren, NJ — Brand Audit with the US Youth Action Council

Ambassador Kayla Peng participated in a national brand audit in partnership with the UN Ocean Decade’s US Youth Action Council. Kayla and her team conducted water testing and collected and recorded data on trash during a lakeside cleanup. The data collected through the national brand audit will be compiled into a report shared with Capitol Hill decision-makers, whom the Youth Action Council will meet with virtually and in person later this year.

🌊 Reno, NV — Sage Ridge School

Teacher Matt and his 4th grade students from Sage Ridge School celebrated World Water Day by heading outdoors to test the creek behind their school. Students learned how to monitor water quality and observe nature’s influence on healthy water systems.

🌊 Colleyville, TX — Park Cleanup and Water Testing

Water Challenge Ambassador Daniel Thomas organized a community park cleanup at Bob Eden Park, where attendees tested water quality and explored ways to protect local waterways. The event encouraged environmental responsibility and local stewardship.

🌊 Chicago, IL — Friends of the Chicago River

In collaboration with Kanoon Boys & Girls Club, the Friends of the Chicago River brought together 25 students to test water quality, collect macroinvertebrates, and remove litter from Canal Origins Park. The group reported 8 kilograms of litter collected, with fishing lines topping the list of most common items found.

🌊 San Salvador, Bahamas — Coral Restoration

Senior Ambassador Camryn Hartigan brought her passion for ocean health to the Bahamas, where she worked with her school’s environmental club to construct a coral tree and coral table for reef restoration. These structures will support coral fragment growth and ecosystem recovery.

🌊 Burlington, MA — Community Water Testing

Lead Ambassador Ayaan Shaikh engaged his local community through water testing demonstrations, showcasing how easy and important it is to monitor water quality. His outreach sparked conversations and inspired others to get involved in protecting local waterways.

🌊 Miami, FL — Surf Skate Science
